AI-powered reverse engineering assistant that bridges IDA Pro with language models through MCP.
You need IDA Pro (paid, 8.3+, ideally 9.x) with Python 3.11+ available to IDA, plus uv, and an MCP client you already use.
Use the plugin marketplace install for Claude Code or Codex, or install the package manually and run ida-pro-mcp --install to configure clients and the IDA plugin.
Completely restart IDA and your MCP client (some clients run in the background) so the new server is picked up.
Open a binary in IDA (or headless with idalib-mcp), then prompt the LLM with a structured strategy: inspect decompilation, rename and comment as it learns, and write up findings.
The LLM can decompile functions, disassemble with full details, list functions, globals and imports, and follow cross-references in your database.
Prompts are designed so the agent renames variables and functions, corrects types (especially pointers and arrays) and documents findings as comments directly in the IDB.
idalib-mcp opens binaries without the GUI, keeps each database in its own persistent worker, and can adopt a running GUI instance for the same file.
Works over stdio, SSE and HTTP with dozens of MCP clients, and ida-pro-mcp --config prints the JSON config for any other client.
Browsable resources expose IDB metadata, segments, entry points, cursor and selection, types and structures, and import/export/xref lookups.
A dedicated int_convert tool handles number-base conversions the README warns LLMs fumble, with guidance on deobfuscation steps to take before analysis.

The MCP server is MIT-licensed and free, but it requires a paid IDA Pro license - IDA Free is explicitly not supported.
The server itself needs no key; the LLM you connect (Claude, GPT and so on) uses your own client subscription or API key.
Hex-Rays now ships its own official server; this community project predates it, supports a wide range of clients and adds a headless idalib mode with persistent workers - try both and keep the one that fits your workflow.
Install it from your client's plugin marketplace (or pip-install the package and run ida-pro-mcp --install), restart IDA and the client, and open a binary.
