mcp2cli
Turn any MCP server, OpenAPI spec or GraphQL endpoint into a CLI — at runtime, with zero codegen
The ripgrep of AI context — a zero-dependency C++23 CLI + MCP server that maps your repo for coding agents
ripwire is an open-source dev tools project by redhat-et (redhat-et/ripwire on GitHub). It has 2,423 GitHub stars and 150 forks, is released under the Apache-2.0 license, and was last updated on GitHub on 8 October 2026.
Decide the question shape: orient an agent to a task, find a symbol's callers, assess a change's blast radius, or gate a PR with tests-to-run.
Install the prebuilt binary with the official installer script (it verifies the SHA-256), or build from source with CMake and a C++23 compiler.
Run ripwire wrap --all to detect installed agents, and install the bundled skills so your agent knows when to reach for which verb.
From your repo root, run ripwire . --for="your task" and compare the bundle with what a grep-and-read pass would have cost.
--for and --pack-task return the ranked symbols, doc comments, risk annotations and one-hop callers for a task in a single small bundle.
--callers, --impact and --uses answer who calls a symbol and what a change touches, filtering out comment-only noise that grep returns.
--situ (tests and blast radius for a diff), --pr-context, --test-gate, --edit-check and --quality-delta check that you built what you meant.
--from-trace resolves a trace's frames to definitions instead of grepping every frame name.
--html renders one self-contained HTML map coloured by language, community, complexity, churn or test coverage, with fixed thresholds.
Confidence is printed on answers, guesses are labelled, losses against competitors are published in docs/EVALS.md, and when a whole file is cheaper than the bundle it serves the file and says so.
Clone ripwire if building from source; the prebuilt install is step 2.
git clone https://github.com/redhat-et/ripwire.git
cd ripwireRun the official installer as the README shows (it downloads the latest GitHub release, verifies its SHA-256, installs to ~/.local/bin and stages the agent skills).
RIPWIRE_REPO=redhat-et/ripwire bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/redhat-et/ripwire/main/scripts/install.sh)"Orient to a task, or install skills for your agent (skills/install.sh, --codex for Codex).
ripwire . --for="incremental cache invalidation"
ripwire wrap --allredhat-et — a Red Hat emerging-technologies team — maintains it on GitHub.
Yes, Apache-2.0 licensed.
No — it is a local binary with zero dependencies; indexing and queries run on your machine. Your agent's model costs are separate.
Those index with embeddings/AST stores and serve MCP tools. ripwire is a single C++ binary CLI+MCP server focused on ranked, fully-disclosed context bundles and change-verification verbs, with published head-to-head evals (wins and losses) in its docs.
Run the curl installer, cd into a repo, and run ripwire . --for="..."; then install its skills so your agent uses it automatically.
