OpenCLI
Turn any website into a CLI — and let AI agents drive your already-logged-in browser
Turn any MCP server, OpenAPI spec or GraphQL endpoint into a CLI — at runtime, with zero codegen
mcp2cli is an open-source dev tools project by knowsuchagency (knowsuchagency/mcp2cli on GitHub). It has 2,416 GitHub stars and 179 forks, is released under the MIT license, and was last updated on GitHub on 12 September 2026.
Pick your source: an MCP server (HTTP/SSE or stdio), an OpenAPI spec URL/file, or a GraphQL endpoint.
Run it zero-install with uvx, or install it globally with uv tool.
Run with --list (and --search) against your source, adding --oauth or --auth-header if the API needs authentication.
Call a tool/operation as a subcommand; if you'll reuse it, bake the connection into a named tool and call it with @name.
--mcp (HTTP/SSE), --mcp-stdio, --spec (OpenAPI JSON/YAML, local or remote) and --graphql modes all expose commands the same way.
Commands are generated at runtime from the live schema — no client SDK to generate, build or keep in sync.
Authorization-code + PKCE and client-credentials flows across all modes, with token caching/refresh and a manual-callback mode for headless hosts.
Auth values support env: and file: prefixes so secrets don't appear in process listings; baked configs mask known credential values.
Save a source, filters (--include/--exclude/--methods) and cache TTL as a named tool in ~/.config/mcp2cli/baked.json, even installable as a wrapper command.
--json guarantees valid JSON on stdout, TOON output trims tokens on large arrays, usage-aware ranking keeps --list short, and specs are cached with a configurable TTL.
Clone mcp2cli if you want the source; the normal path is uvx/uv in step 2.
git clone https://github.com/knowsuchagency/mcp2cli.git
cd mcp2cliRun directly without installing, or install it globally.
uvx mcp2cli --help
# or: uv tool install mcp2cliList an MCP server's tools, then call one as a subcommand (OpenAPI and GraphQL sources work the same way with --spec / --graphql).
mcp2cli --mcp https://mcp.example.com/sse --list
mcp2cli --mcp https://mcp.example.com/sse search --query "test"knowsuchagency maintains it; the package is on PyPI as mcp2cli.
Yes, MIT-licensed.
Only whatever the target API itself requires — mcp2cli adds auth-header and OAuth support to supply it, including from env vars or files.
A gateway hosts aggregated servers for clients to connect to. mcp2cli is the opposite direction: it consumes MCP/OpenAPI/GraphQL sources and presents them as a local CLI for humans, scripts and agents.
uvx mcp2cli --help, then mcp2cli --spec <openapi.json URL> --list and call an operation.
