// how it works

How it works

  1. Decide hosted or self-hosted

    Use the hosted registry at treg.to for the fastest start, or self-host the open-source server for your team.

  2. Install the CLI and sign in

    Install the treg CLI with the one-line installer and sign in (GitHub by default).

  3. Find a tool by task

    Search the catalog by what you want to do rather than by vendor, and check the per-call price.

  4. Make your first call

    Call an endpoint through treg and check your balance to see exactly what it cost.

// features

Why people love it

Task-first catalog

Search thousands of endpoints by the job ('backlinks for a domain', 'find a work email') instead of by vendor name.

Per-call pricing

Catalog calls are billed per call to a prepaid team balance; endpoints with a verified public route are free, and out-of-balance returns an HTTP 402 an agent can act on.

Bring your own tools

Register your own API endpoints, OAuth connections, vendor CLIs, and SKILL.md skills — your own key always wins over treg's and those calls are never metered.

Server-side credential injection

The proxy relays requests and injects auth server-side, so callers never hold provider keys.

Agent integrations

A CLI, MCP surfaces for Claude connectors, a Claude Code plugin, and ready-made workflow skills (for example lead-signals and make-ugc).

Arenas for comparison

Enrich Arena and Web Arena compare providers for the same input side by side on cost, speed, and quality.

// run it

Run it yourself

  1. Clone the repository

    Clone the project if you plan to self-host or develop treg (hosted users can skip to the CLI install).

    git clone https://github.com/superdesigndev/treg.git
    cd treg
  2. Install the CLI and sign in

    The installer also points the CLI at the registry; sign in with GitHub by default.

    curl -fsSL https://treg.to/install.sh | sh
    treg login
  3. Search and call a tool

    Find a tool by task and make a first call, then check what it cost.

    treg catalog search "backlinks for a domain"
    treg call tikhub.tiktok.user.profile --query uniqueId=tiktok
    treg balance

Questions, answered

Who maintains treg?

The Superdesign team (superdesigndev); it was built for their own team and is live at treg.to, and the server can be self-hosted.

Is treg free?

The project is open source (license not asserted in the repo metadata). Using the hosted catalog costs per call from a prepaid balance when treg's own provider keys serve the call; calls through your own registered keys are unmetered, and new verified accounts receive a small free credit per the README.

Does it need a paid API key?

Not to start — catalog calls can run on treg's keys billed per call. Registering your own provider keys is optional and makes those calls unmetered.

How does it compare to OpenRouter?

OpenRouter unifies LLM model APIs behind one key; treg applies the same idea to agent *tools* — data and action endpoints from many vendors — and adds a registry for your own team's keys, CLIs, and skills.

How do I get started?

Install the CLI with the one-line installer from treg.to, run `treg login`, then `treg catalog search` for a task and `treg call` an endpoint.
