// how it works

How it works

  1. Clarify your goal

    Choose the data you need — search results, a scraped page, structured platform data, or full browser automation — and the tool group that covers it.

  2. Get an API token

    Create a Bright Data account and copy your API token from account settings (the free tier needs no credit card).

  3. Connect your client

    Add the hosted MCP URL with your token to your client, or configure the local npx @brightdata/mcp server with API_TOKEN. Optionally restrict groups/tools in the URL or env.

  4. Run your first call

    Ask your agent to run a search_engine query or scrape_as_markdown on a page that normally blocks scrapers.

// features

Why people love it

75 tools in groups

Base search/scrape tools plus groups for ecommerce, social, browser, business, finance, research, app stores, travel, GEO and code — load only what you need.

Web search as data

Google, Bing and Yandex results returned as structured data, including batch search (10 at a time) and an AI-relevance-ranked discover tool.

Structured platform extractors

45 platform-specific tools return clean JSON (products, profiles, posts, reviews, jobs) without HTML parsing, plus 1,200+ pre-built Web Scraper API collectors.

Unblocking built in

Bot detection handling, CAPTCHA solving, proxy rotation and geo-targeting are handled on every request.

Remote browser automation

13 browser tools to navigate, click, type and screenshot in a remote session — no local browser maintenance.

LLM response collection

Send prompts to ChatGPT, Grok and Perplexity and get answers back as structured data for brand-visibility (GEO) analysis.

Questions, answered

Who maintains Bright Data MCP?

Bright Data, the web-data platform company, maintains the server and the hosted infrastructure behind it.

Is it free?

The MCP server code is MIT-licensed. The service has a free tier (5,000 requests/month, no credit card, per the README); beyond that it is pay-as-you-go, with published per-1K-result and per-GB browser pricing.

Does it need a paid API key?

It needs a Bright Data API token — free to obtain for the free tier; paid usage starts only beyond the free allowance as described in the README's pricing section.

How does it compare to a simple fetch/search MCP server?

Typical servers offer a handful of generic tools and get blocked on protected sites. This one adds platform-specific structured extractors, unblocking, browser automation and batch operations.

How do I get started?

Get a token from your Bright Data account, add the hosted URL to your MCP client (or the npx config), and ask your agent to search or scrape.
