// how it works

How it works

  1. Check your server capacity

    Make sure the host has at least 4 CPU cores and 16GB RAM plus Docker and Docker Compose - the stack also installs Elasticsearch, Milvus and OnlyOffice.

  2. Clone and enter the installer

    Clone the repo and change into its docker directory, which contains the Compose deployment.

  3. Start the platform

    Bring the stack up in detached mode with Docker Compose and wait for the services to become ready.

  4. Register and configure

    Open the app in your browser (port 3001), register - the first registered user becomes system admin - then connect your models and start building workflows.

// features

Why people love it

Visual workflow orchestration

An independent orchestration framework where loops, parallelism, batch processing and conditional logic are drawn as flowcharts, with multi-type input/output for reports, reviews and more.

Human in the loop

Users can intervene and give feedback during workflow execution, including multi-turn conversations, instead of only running start to finish.

Linsight agent

A general-purpose agent using the AGL (Agent Guidance Language) framework to embed domain experts' preferences, experience and business logic.

High-precision document parsing

Parsing models for printed and handwritten text, rare characters, tables, layout analysis and seals, deployable privately for free.

Full LLM devops coverage

GenAI workflow, RAG, agents, unified model management, evaluation, SFT and dataset management in one platform, building on LangChain, Langflow, unstructured and LLaMA-Factory.

Enterprise-grade operations

Security review, RBAC, user groups, per-group traffic control, SSO/LDAP, vulnerability scanning and patching, high-availability deployment options, monitoring and statistics.

Questions, answered

Who maintains BISHENG?

BISHENG is developed by dataelement and an open-source community; it is named after Bi Sheng, inventor of movable-type printing.

Is BISHENG free?

The platform is Apache-2.0 licensed and the document parsing can be deployed privately for free; you provide the infrastructure and the LLM models you connect.

Does it need a paid API key?

You configure the models the platform calls - that can be commercial APIs with your keys or self-hosted open models; BISHENG itself charges nothing.

How does BISHENG compare with Dify or Langflow?

All three build LLM apps visually; BISHENG differentiates on enterprise depth - human-in-the-loop workflows, high-precision document parsing, SFT/evaluation/dataset management and enterprise security features in one platform.

How do I get started?

Clone the repo, cd into docker, run docker compose up -d, then open port 3001 and register the admin account.
