Choose how you will use it: Python library in code, the ddgs CLI, a self-hosted API server, or an MCP server for an AI client.
Install the base package, or the [api] or [mcp] extras for the server variants.
Optionally set a proxy (http/https/socks5) and pick backends such as Bing, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Google, Mojeek, Startpage or Yandex for text search.
Call DDGS().text(...) in Python, run a CLI search, or start the MCP server and query it from Cursor or Claude Desktop.
Text search aggregates Bing, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Google, Grokipedia, Mojeek, Startpage, Yandex, Yahoo and Wikipedia.
text(), images(), videos(), news() and books() methods, plus extract() to pull content from a URL.

pip install ddgs[api] adds a FastAPI server with /search/* and /extract endpoints and Swagger/ReDoc docs.

The DDGS class accepts an optional proxy, supporting http, https and socks5 protocols.
